A former northwest Florida developer is one of 18 people indicted by a federal grand jury in Atlanta for an alleged mortgage fraud scheme in Fulton County, Georgia.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Phillip Hill had been involved in questionable real estate dealings in St. George Island and at Palm Bay in Panama City Beach.
It was his dealings in Georgia, though that brought the indictment for conspiracy, bank loan fraud, and mail and wire fraud in connection with a mortgage scheme.
Hill's mortgage scheme reportedly resulted in hundreds of mortgage foreclosures in the Atlanta area.
The charges have nothing to do with his St. George Island and Panama City Beach dealings where he allegedly took money from buyers, never finished construction and spent the money elsewhere. He was never charged here.
