Suspect Nabbed in Area Murder

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies say the man they suspect of committing a murder in Campbellton is now in police custody.

The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Stephen Lester in Troy, Alabama. He’s wanted for first-degree murder.

Lester is being transferred to the Houston County jail in Dothan, Alabama.

Deputies found 19-year-old Andre’ Sawyer dead from a gunshot wound to the head last Tuesday.

Jackson County Sheriff Johnny McDaniel said, “We know that there was a confrontation between the two young men and Mr. Lester is alleged to have pulled out a weapon and shot the young man.”

McDaniel hinted that cellular phone records of Stephen Lester were used in the probe, which led to his capture, but he wouldn’t elaborate.
