Panama City Beach is crossing into a new threshold of public recreation.
Beach city and community civic leaders broke ground Thursday on a new million dollar aquatics center. It’s located at Frank Brown Park on the Back Beach Road just east of Highway 79.
The aquatics center will feature three pools including an 80-meter main pool, a smaller 30-meter pool and a kiddie pool area.
The money for the project is coming from both public funding and private donations, including a $500,000 grant from the St. Joe Foundation.
Three Olympic medal winners were on hand for Thursday’s groundbreaking.
The project should be completed in the fall of 2005.
