Florida’s Attorney General says the Days Inn at Crestview in Okaloosa County price gouged its customers during Hurricane Frances.
Charlie Crist says the average room rate at the motel went from $59 a night to $97 a night during Frances when central and south Florida residents evacuated and many came into the Panhandle.
His lawsuit cites three cases in which evacuees from south Florida were allegedly overcharged.
Crist says a Palmetto man was charged $117 a night. An elderly Leeburg woman's four day bill totaled $392 and a Bradenton man’s room rates jumped up by $30 a night during the storm.
Crist wants damages of $10,000 for each case, plus other penalties.
