Large Crane Comes Down in the Middle of High Rise Workmen

A 300-foot-tall construction crane collapsed Sunday afternoon at the site of a condominium project in St. Andrew.

The project, at West 10th Street and Bayview Avenue, was the former location of the old Harbour House Restaurant and Ramada Inn.

Emergency crews responded to the mishap a little after 4 p.m. at the construction site which is adjacent to the St. Andrew Marina.

Panama City Police say two men were injured when the crane toppled on top of the multi story condominium. But it was a close call for many others.

About a dozen workers had just left the top floor and were finished for the day when the crane broke and toppled on top of the two workers still on top.

Both were able to walk away from the accident and were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Panama City Police are investigating. They said it hasn’t been determined what caused the mishap.
