Jackson County Has Kicked Off its United Way Drive

Employers from local businesses gathered for a kick-off lunch at the historic Russ House in Marianna to mark the event.

All Jackson County United Way donations will stay in the county to help fund the service agencies that help people in need.

Jackson County United Way Chairman Stan Whitehurst says he is hoping to go beyond last year's goal of $88,000.

"We're trying to raise $100,000 this year for Jackson County. It's pretty much up to employers to approach their employees and for members of the community who just want to help out."

Some of the local employers participating in the United Way drive in Jackson County include Southtrust Bank, Wal-Mart and the new Lowe’s that will open for business next month.
