This week Florida tourism officials will be asking state lawmakers to write a big check to help boost the state's image in the wake of four hurricanes.
Research is showing Florida's image as a vacation destination took a beating after relentless national coverage of the catastrophic storms.
Business people in the tourism industry will request $14.5 million from lawmakers. Tom Flanigan of the state tourism group “Visit Florida” says it’s for an ad campaign to counteract the negative publicity.
"One of the things that we need to do is to reassure people the number one the state remains to be a viable destination both for leisure travelers and even more so, perhaps, for meeting and convention businesses."
Visit Florida says the state could lose more than $160 million in sales tax revenues next year due to the hurricane-related drop in convention and visitors business.
