The man arrested for killing a mother and her five-month-old son in a car crash had his first appearance before a Bay County judge Sunday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 44-year-old Timothy Chilton of Ohio is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license at the time of the crash.
Troopers say Chilton was driving on Thomas Drive south of Highway 98 on September 18. Troopers say he was traveling at least 72 miles per hour in a 25 mile an hour zone when he tried to stop at the intersection and skidded into a station wagon stopped at the light.
Twenty-eight-year-old Jenni Power was driving the station wagon and was taken to the hospital, but later died as a result of her injuries. Power's five-month-old son, John, died at the scene.
Three other people were also injured in the crash. Chilton is being held on $305,000 bond.
