Latest Jobless Rates

Area counties are reporting mixed unemployment numbers for the month of October.

The jobless numbers usually increase each fall around here, and that’s the case in Bay, Calhoun, Okaloosa, Jackson and Walton counties. Each of these showed slight increases in the number of people out of work.

Bay, for example went from 3.8 percent in September to 4.0 percent in October.

Calhoun County unemployment went up to 4.7 percent from 4.2 percent.

Jackson County’s rate went from 3.5 percent up to 3.7 percent.

Okaloosa County’s jobless rate went from 2.1 percent in September up to 2.6 percent in October.

Walton County’s figures went up very slightly from 2.6 percent to 2.7 percent.

But on the other hand, a number of counties in the area saw an improvement in unemployment. Gulf, Holmes, Liberty, and Washington had more people working in October as compared with a month earlier.

Gulf County had more people working in October as the jobless rate in the Port St. Joe area dropped from 3.1 percent to 2.8 percent.

Holmes County saw its jobless rate drop from 4.3 percent to 3.9 percent in a month.

Liberty County has the best rate in the area, 1.9 percent unemployment in October, down from 2.2 percent in September.

Washington County, the Chipley area, recorded a 2.8 percent unemployment rate in October. That was down two-tenths of a percent from a month earlier.

The numbers remained the same, 2.6 percent, in Franklin County, the Apalachicola area.

The figures come from the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation, Labor Market Statistics, Local Area Unemployment Statistics Program.
