The city of Springfield is still "mayorless.” City commissioners held a workshop Monday afternoon to try and resolve the mayor vacancy, but could not agree on who to appoint, so they're asking Gov. Jeb Bush to make the decision.
Commissioners Carl Curti and John Gipson have favored reinstating Robert Walker, who resigned to make an unsuccessful run for county commission. Now, he'd like the finish his term, even offering to work for free.
But Commissioners Ernest Jordan and Beth McClean want someone else in the seat. The city attorney says it could take the governor two months to name a mayor.
Commissioners also postponed a decision on the other workshop item, a salary for the interim police chief. They scheduled that meeting for next Monday at 1 p.m.
