Walton County beach officials hope a new experiment can help solve a continuing erosion problem.
On a 2,000 section of Inlet Beach, county officials have installed a porous groin, structures designed to keep the beach from washing away.
When waves hit the netting between the pylons, they slow down and get smaller, dropping the sand they carry onto the beach.
Since November officials estimate the system has deposited 2,500 more cubic feet of sand on the beach than natural restoration methods.
