It could mean millions of dollars for our local economic and thousands of jobs as well. That's why Bay County's Economic Development Alliance is vying nationally for the aircraft assembly plant, which would manufacture an aerial refueling tanker called the KC-330 for the Pentagon.

EDA's chairman, Ted Clem, announced Monday that Panama City is one of six Florida cities competing for the attention of airbus who will manufacture the tankers.

Airbus launched a nationwide search last month, with the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company to build the proposed $600 million assembly plant. It would employ more than 1,100 workers.

A delegation representing Florida's six cities attended a briefing on the project in Washington Monday. At least 30 other states were represented at the meeting. Each state can nominate up to three locations.

Florida's delegation, Enterprise Florida, would not comment on which cities were chosen.
