County commissioners would want a better commitment from Panama City officials before spending any money on the downtown library.
The county leases the library building from the city. That lease is up in eight years.
Last week, Panama City commissioners discussed buying the library from the county and converting it into city office space. With that in mind, county commissioners don't want to make spend a lot of money on library renovations, then lose the building.
Wednesday they agreed to ask the city asking for a 50-year lease extension. The proposal includes plans to build an addition to the front or back of the building.
