Five county officials were accused of ethics violations by the state for a trip sponsored by the Corrections Corporation of America several years ago to study jail options.
The panel cleared former Commissioner Carol Atkinson, but not without her racking up attorney fees to fight the allegations.
Tuesday the board was asked to decide whether she was acting with a public purpose on the trip. If so, the county attorney says they are obligated to pay for her defense fees.
The board unanimously agreed Atkinson did have a public purpose during the trip which means she is eligible for a reimbursement of $1,085.
