Bay County commissioners are narrowing down their options for solving jail overcrowding problems.
They have come up with a short-term plan to add an extra 444 beds to house inmates.
The county is proposing the addition of modular buildings to the jail annex property in Bayou George. It could also serve as a temporary holding facility.
The cost would be about $5 million.
Commissioners are still exploring a proposal to build a new permanent jail facility at the annex site. It would replace the current downtown county jail next to the court house, but they say they don't expect the have that facility completed before 2010.
