Tornado on the Ground

Homeowners are still cleaning up from a strong storm that hit our area earlier this week.

A tornado touched down in Overstreet near Mexico Beach on Monday, but Wednesday at least one family is without a home.

Anthony and Lisa Varona say they could hear the tornado coming towards them just seconds before it hit their home, tearing off the roof and sending the pieces flying.

Just down the street, William Deeson's home was spared, but the tornado picked up his RV and tipped it on its side.

Deeson says you can never tell what a tornado can do, especially when you look at the property left untouched.

"I was amazed at what had happened. The pole barn and the fifth wheel turned over, very little damage inside except the fifth wheel turning over. I've never seen anything like it."

Deeson says he has lived in the area for more than 30 years and never had as much damage to his property as this tornado.
