The future of the Bay County Jail is starting to take shape.
County Commissioners, at a Tuesday workshop, agreed to move the jail out of the downtown Panama City area and consolidate the facility with the current Jail Annex on 16 acres of land east of Highway 231 in Bayou George.
Right now the Jail Annex has 300 to 400 beds. Commissioners want to add 900 more.
The county says it will accept bids to design, build and operate the facility, which is expected to cost between 45 and 50 million dollars.
The Commission expects to get a response for bid proposals within the next 45 days.
