Marianna- Chipola College student Jaren Bannerman paid $3.75 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas Wednesday at a Tom Thumb gas station in Marianna.

"It's just getting expensive. I couldn't even fill up my tank today, I only got twenty-five (dollars)," said Bannerman.

It was worse news for drivers at a station just down the road. They were paying $3.94 per gallon (ethanol-free).

But if you think that's bad, it's nothing compared to what diesel fuel is going for right now.

A gallon of diesel cost drivers $4.25 Wednesday at the TA station outside Marianna city limits near I-10.

Truck driver Joe Burroughs was just one of many drivers News Channel 7 spoke with who's furious to see gas prices keep rising.

"It's killing us, every driver out here. The average truck gets between four to five and a half miles to the gallon. At four dollars and twenty-five cents a gallon, you're averaging about a dollar a mile," said Burroughs.

Elroy Baptiste said it's getting to the point where his company is cutting back on routes. He said he fears his paycheck could be next.

"It's slow because of the gas prices, we don't have any freights to deliver because of these gas prices, people are losing jobs because of these gas prices," said Baptiste.

Most of the drivers said they thought diesel would reach the $6 mark by summer. Regular unleaded is rumored to be around $5 per gallon.
