If you are a Gulf Power customer, you may need to know the utility is investigating a phone-scam that targets its customers.
Two Panama City residential customers and one Ft. Walton Beach business have received phone calls from someone claiming to be a Gulf Power representative.
The caller tells the customer they are due a refund check because of billing errors during hurricane Ivan.
The caller, who has the customer’s correct address, asks for verification of the customer's Social Security numbers and tag identification numbers along with birth dates.
A Gulf Power spokeswoman says the utility does not initial telephone calls to consumers about billing errors.
The utility says it’s investigating and advises if you get one of these type of calls to please call your local law enforcement agency.
