Weekend Traffic Crashes Kill Two People

A single car accident Saturday night near Fort Walton Beach claims the life of a 26-year-old Mary Esther woman. The mishap happened on Highway 98 on Okaloosa Island about four miles east of Ft. Walton Beach.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say Glenda Sage Rush was a passenger in a car that ran off Highway 98 and into the grass median around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

They say the driver, 22-year-old Jonathan Robert Mitchell, over corrected and lost control. The car rolled at least four times before coming to a rest on its roof.

Rush was thrown out. Mitchell was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Meanwhile, a single vehicle accident in north Okaloosa County killed one man over the weekend.

Troopers say 60-year-old Larry Wendell Mears of Laurel Hill was killed near his home when he attempted to drive around a road construction barrier, slid down the shoulder of a road, crashed into a concrete culvert and overturned on its top.

After overturning Mears’ pick-up truck came to rest upside down in a small creek.
