Area Hit and Run Driver Sought

The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a hit and run driver who killed a bicyclist early Sunday morning on US 98 between Destin and Ft. Walton Beach.

Troopers identified the fatality as 63-year-old Harry Robert Crawford of Destin. He was riding his bicycle westbound on Highway 98 at Gulf National Seashore Drive at 6 AM when an unknown vehicle hit him from behind and fled.

Okaloosa County paramedics pronounced Crawford dead at the scene.

A private citizen in the area reported seeing the driver of a green van stopping not far from the scene and pulling out the vehicles from bumper. The vehicle then sped off at a high rate of speed heading westbound on US 98.

Vehicle parts made by Chrysler were found in the crash area.

Troopers say anyone who may have any information about the fatal hit and run accident to please call the Florida Highway Patrol at 850-245-1402.
