Panama City - Road work on the Thomas Drive project continues this week after a break during spring break. Panama City Beach officials say the work needs to be completed in one month or the contractor could face some big fines.
According to the project manage, there is no reason to believe those fines will be necessary as crews are already putting on the final touches to the project. A large portion of the project is geared toward pedestrians. The new project has 8 ft. wide sidewalks on both sides of the road, bike paths and a trolley lane.
Construction slowed during spring break because the city asked the contractor to hold off on road work during that time. But the CRA manager says crews were still working planting hundreds of trees and widening sidewalks on Front Beach rd.
The project is scheduled to be done in one month. If not, the contractor could be fined $3 thousand a day, each day it is late.
