Workers for Ambercombie Construction say they were trying to elevate a house in Pensacola when a construction worker died.
They say the side of a house collapsed and pinned him under it.
An Escambia County Emergency Management spokeswoman says that's when the house either shifted or its center beam collapsed. The home had been heavily damaged during Hurricane Ivan last September.
The spokesperson says 22-year-old James Peter Griffith of Pensacola died, and another worker suffered a leg injury.
The house's owner was not on the property, where the house sits on pilings. Neighbors say the owner wanted to elevate the house to build underneath it.
