Marianna- It's free and easier than ever to add your number to Florida's no call list. But, you might continue to get unwanted phone calls. An estimated five million Floridians are already on that list, but the phone calls for political campaigns keep coming in.
Jerry Dorchuck, owner of Political Marketing International Inc said that's because politicians are exempt from the Do Not Call List under the first amendment. Dorchuck has helped politicians get their message out through automated phone calls for over 20 years. And even though he legally can call people on the no call list, he said he usually doesn't.
"We subscribe to the do not call list because we offer that to our candidates because some of them are sensitive and do not want people to get a call who are on a no call list" Dorchuck said.
But the No Call List loop-holes don't end there. Any company you've done prior business with can still legally call you, regardless of your list status.
Even though many states have cracked down on how and when these calls can occur, it's still legal in nearly every state. And, it takes about 30 days after adding your name to the states before the calls stop.
