A judge has set a trial date for Walton County Commission Chairman Scott Brannon on contempt of court charges.

Brannon is accused of violating a 2009 court order against violating Florida' sunshine laws. He allegedly sent e-mails involving county business from his personal computer and personal e-mail account. Walton County resident Suzanne Harris, who brought the first sunshine lawsuit in 2009 was back in court Monday.

Another Walton County resident, Driftwood Estates Homeowners Association President Alan Osborne, also showed up claiming he has additional emails proving other commissioners violated open government laws. Judge David Green ruled he did not have sufficient interest in the case

Brannon's trial date is June 12th. He' already announced he will not run for re-election this year.

there is no timing on this is issue of convenience. Violating a law is WRONG, black and white. Whether the violation may be viewed as a minor infraction or not, the disrespect for the law itself and the office which these folks were elected to uphold is enough in itself to be called into light! Where there is smoke there is fire. Whatever happened to the virtues of character and the importance of elected officials honoring their role in service of the people and not what they can score for their own benefit. Judges may rule how they wish but the people are not stupid and will exercise their frustration with the upcoming elections!

Isn't it convenient that these charges are being made against Scott Brannon and alligations are being made against Larry Jones just as the new election year is coming up! Someone needs to take a good look at people who might have something to gain by making these men look bad...
