Eight teens have been charged with various charges ranging from aggravated assault and criminal mischief to unlawful assembly following an incident at the Okaloosa Youth Academy in Crestview.
Okaloosa County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call at the Youth Academy on April 27th where they observed teens standing on the roof of a dormitory. Detention staff members say the teens had taken shingles, iron rods, and other items that could be used as weapons off the roof.
They reported the teens. The teens then threatened them and began throwing the iron rods and swinging them in an aggressive manner, causing the staff to fear for their safety.
The estimated damage done to the roof is approximately $1,000 dollars.
The students range in age from thirteen to eighteen.
The eight students have been identified as Zackary Peterson, Keith Thomas Jr, Kashawn Jefferson, Derick Jones, Barcardius Williams, Austin Smith, Qwa’Shawn Moorer, and Charlie Filer Jr.
All eight students have been charges with felony criminal mischief, aggravated assault, and riots and routs, and misdemeanor unlawful assembly.
Filer and Thomas Jr were transported to the Okaloosa County Jail. The others were taking to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
