Qualifying Ended at Noon Friday for a Special Election

Two candidates have qualified for the June special election to fill the vacant state representative from House District #7.

Marti Coley, widow of State Rep. David Coley of Marianna who died of cancer last month, is the only Republican to qualify during the day and a half qualifying period for the special election.

Carl Duncan of Marianne will be the only Democrat in the race. That eliminates the need for a special primary election.

Panama City Beach political activist John Caylor had pre-qualified by petition, but failed to meet Friday's noon deadline.

Voters go to the polls in a general election on June 14 to elect either Coley or Duncan.

House District 7 stretches from Leon County (Tallahassee) on the east all the way to Ft. Walton Beach in Okaloosa County on the west.

The district covers parts of nine different counties.
