Highway 98 at Tyndall Air Force Base all the way to Mexico Beach was closed Thursday morning. There was been a hazardous material spill (Chlorine) forcing the shut down of the major highway.
The shutdown lasted about two hours forcing some motorists to take long detours to be able to travel around the base to and from Mexico Beach.
The leak occurred around 9:00 a.m. in the area around the Silver Flag Training site.
Tyndall officials and Bay County HAZMAT teams were called to the scene to contain the problem. One worker was treated for heat exhaustion.
