New Storm Returns Cross Lost to Hurricane Ivan in Panhandle

A couple says Tropical Storm Arlene swept up the cross they had lost after last year's Hurricane Ivan.

Dean and Ruth Lindsey of Indiana say the foot-tall cross was just one of the items missing from their ground-floor condominium unit in Fort Walton Beach after the hurricane hit in September, but as the tropical storm rolled in on June 11, the cross was swept in by the oncoming water.

The manager of a nearby condo says 1-E was inscribed on the bottom of the pedestal of the cross and suspected it must have come from the Island Echoes condominium.

The couple says they were stunned when they got an e-mail from the manager about the cross being found. They say they left the cross in the condo after spending the winter in the Florida Panhandle.
