A judge sentenced runaway bride Jennifer Wilbanks to probation after she pleaded no contest to lying to police.
While Wilbanks obviously handled her pre-marital jitters differently than most, she's not the only woman to suffer from pre-wedding stress. In fact, most brides consider dropping it all and running away at some point.
A wedding can be the happiest day of your life. It can also be the most stressful if you let your planning control you. Wedding designer Leslie Childers has been in the business for more than 20 years. She says there are only two types of brides.
Leslie says, "They're either so excited, they're in their pretty dress and they're excited about everything, or they're crying and stressed out about everything."
If you want to make sure the only tears you shed on your wedding day are that of joy, here's some expert advice.
Make a schedule from the beginning and stick to it. There are tons of wedding planning books and websites that can help you with this. I recommend weddingchannel.com because it has tons of printable checklists, an online guest list and budget calculator, and it's free.
Second, hire people you trust.
"The flowers don't always come in the exact right color, and we have to work with what we have; just be flexible and know that we will make you something beautiful."
And don't be afraid to ask for more than what is offered, especially before you sign a contract.
Next: delegation; ask your mom, aunts, sisters or bridesmaids to help with coordinating the big day. They will be honored you asked, just make sure you give them a specific task. My aunt designed aisle decorations which cut down on florist costs.
Finally, just accept it now. You will go over budget.
"They never stick to their budget. Weddings tend to grow, they tend to get bigger. They start, oh it's gonna be real small, then oh, I need to add this."
Going over budget can be less of a headache if you plan ahead for it. Put aside a little extra cash for last minute must-haves.
And just a little personal advice: schedule some down time the day before the wedding, a massage or a nap or just a good movie with no interruptions. You'll head to your rehearsal dinner with a calm glow everyone will notice. Then there's nothing left to do but get gorgeous on your wedding day.
