The Florida Supreme Court says Okaloosa County murderer Lamar Brooks won't be getting off death row.
Brooks failed Thursday to once again win a third trial for the 1996 stabbing deaths of Rachel Carlson and her three-month-old daughter.
The state’s highest court upheld Brooks' conviction and death sentence. The high court had given Brooks a second trial three years ago, and the jury once again decided he should be placed on death row.
Brooks and his cousin, Walker Davis, killed Miss Carlson and the baby so Davis could avoid paying child support and collect on a $100,000 life insurance policy.
Carlson, an Eglin AFB medical technician, was stabbed more than 65 times. Her baby was stabbed once.
