A new list rating beaches across the country finds Florida has more clean and healthy beaches than any other state.
The Clean Beach Council has released its list of beaches that qualify for its Blue Wave designation. Each year the non-profit group certifies beaches as clean, healthy and environmentally well-managed as families head out for summer vacation.
This year Florida has 46 beaches on the list. Seventeen are located along the Panhandle Coast, and 13 are on the Gulf Coast.
Beach communities say the Blue Wave designation is like a Good Housekeeping stamp of approval for beaches.
To make the list, beaches must meet certain standards for water quality, safety, services, habitat conservation, erosion management and public information.
