Pair of Loggerheads Set Free

Two endangered loggerhead turtles are back in the Gulf after short rehabilitation at Gulf World.

The two, which were named Raphael and Maggie, arrived separately at Gulf World this spring.

Raphael is the younger of the two. He was suffering a bad respiratory infection. Gulf World vets treated him with antibiotics.

A fisherman accidentally hooked Maggie, who needed minor surgery. Both made a complete recovery.

"We're very excited to be a part of this because they are endangered species, and the rehab was very short term, it was successful. We're very happy about that and then we get to participate in releasing them back to their natural home."

The Coast Guard in Panama City took the turtles into the Gulf and released them.
