No Lifeguards in Walton County

Joey May only comes to beaches where lifeguards are present, like one in Destin. He says his two kids' lives are not worth taking that risk of not having help nearby.

But there are no lifeguards on Walton County's beaches, and some say this is a dangerous time not to have them, and not just because of Saturday's shark attack.

The girl attacked on Saturday was about 250 yards from shore. Many lifeguards say they would call people back if they were 150 feet off shore, and that's the kind of protection Walton County needs.

The Walton County Fire Department and Sheriff's Office are recommending the county hire lifeguards. In the meantime, it's swim at your own risk.
