Before Hurricane Dennis hit last month, Panama City beach was on-pace to have a big year for bed tax collections.
In the first six months of this year, the Tourist Development collected $2,897,000 in revenues. That's about a three percent increase over the same time period last year, and with far fewer hotel and motel rooms available for rent than in previous years.
The best January to June period on record was in 2002, just over $2.9 million.
Tourism leaders are worried they could see a dip in July because of Hurricane Dennis and the steady rain that's plagued the area for the last several weeks.
