With the high price of copper these days more and more attempts are being made to steal copper from various sources.

Two men trying to get away with 800 pounds of new copper wire from Gulf Power in Chipley have been arrested following a two and a half hour chase.

Chipley police officer David Pettis spotted the duo as they fled Gulf Power at 1:30 in the morning. Along with help from the Washington County Sheriff office and a K-9 unit from Washington County Corrections arrested the pair following a foot chase across town.

Arrested were William Lance Nichols and Timothy Floyd Summerlin of Cottondale. They were taken into custody behind P-A-E-C.
They are being held in the Washington County Jail in Chipley.
