Gay Adoption in Florida

Florida is the only state in the country that *specifically* bans adoptions based on sexual orientation. At the capitol Wednesday, child welfare advocates were on hand to support a bill to allow gay couples to adopted.

Democratic Senator Nan Rich of Miami says allowing gay couples to adopt would help offer some relieve to the state’s foster care system.

“We have over 3,000 children that are waiting for loving, stable homes. Permanent homes. So this is another pool exactly of parents of people that we believe should have the same rights as anybody else.”

The Florida Office of Analysis and Accountability says children left in foster care grow up more dependent upon public assistance.

This is really a restriction based on sterotypes and fear. So many children need stable loving homes and there are many gay and lesbian couples willing and able to provide that to them. I really hope that Florida moves out of the dark ages and allows gays and lesbians to adopt.

I agree with the commenter below me. It is a dirty shame that Florida prohibts gay couples to adopt. Parenthood is not about having a mother and father. It's about having two people love and care for a child. So what if the parents are of the same gender? It makes so difference. It's all about love people! Besides think of the kids and not your personal thoughts and feelings. How can you be predjustice when a child is alone? How can you?

I think that if the parents (gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgendered) offer unconditional love, safe enviroment to grow up in, and offer stability then it shouldn't matter. Myself being of the homsexual nature would love to one day have a kid of my own and would raise it better than some straight parents would. Why should we allow kids who have no parents have the feeling that they are undeserving of parents is beyond me.
