Rita Is Now a Category One Hurricane

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm has powered up to 75 mile-per-hour wind, making it barely a hurricane.

Some people still in the Florida Keys says maybe they should have left before the storm.

Key West resident Linda McAlarney says evacuating ahead of Rita was the “right thing to do” and she probably should have followed the warnings.

The storm is sweeping into the Gulf, south of Florida. It's already been pelting Florida with rain and threatens to dump up to 15 inches on parts of the island chain.

A man riding a bike through Key West in the rain says, “You can't run from a storm.”
