After months, even years of debate, it appears Bay County will be getting a new main library facility.
Bay County commissioners have voted to spend $7 million on a new $60,000 square foot library on the downtown marina.
The vote was four to one with commission Mike Thomas voting against the idea.
A lot of discussion at the Monday afternoon meeting centered around the county’s options, a new building or renovating the existing one. Experts estimate the current library needs at least $1 million in repairs.
One of the biggest problems is a leaky roof which pours like a faucet during heavy rains.
The county will build the new facility on the marina next to the old facility. Once the new building is completed the old library will be demolished.
There’s no word yet on a state of completion date.
