Low Humidity and Blustery Wind Fans Fire

A major woods fire burned for several hours Tuesday afternoon at Star Ave and Tram Road in Callaway.

The blaze broke out a few minutes before 1 p.m. and quickly spread in the brisk winds.

Some 50 firefighters from Bay County Fire Departments, the Division of Forestry and the St. Joe Company battled the flames.

The fire spread quickly but an official estimate on how many acres are involved isn't known some sources indicated 65 to 75 acres..

Two units from the Springfield Fire Department stood by at the Clifford Simms Veterans Nursing Home on Tram Road in case the fire moved that way.

The fire weas pretty much contained by sundown and firefighters will keep an eye on it tonight in case it flares up again.
