Telephone scammers can be tricky, sound professional and authoritative, and even intimidating.
Luckily, several area residents have caught on to a man identifying himself as Senior Officer Andrew Jones. He’s been calling people and asking for their checking account numbers.
He claims he works for a bank, and that their account numbers are posted on the Internet.
He says they must give him their account numbers so they can compare them to the ones on the Internet and he’ll make sure they take them off the Internet.
Several people have reported the hoax. Luckily, all of them caught on and refused to divulge the information.
Police say whenever you get a similar call asking for personal information do not give it out. Then, call your police department or sheriff’s office to report the call.
