Area Unemployment Rates Looking Good

Florida leads the nation in the number of new jobs created during the month of August, and the unemployment rate statewide is the lowest since 1976.

During last month, Bay County's unemployment rate dropped by three tenths of a point.
Calhoun, Franklin, Gulf and Holmes Counties also showed similar declines in unemployment.

In fact, other area counties faired just as well, with Jackson sporting a four tenths of a percent hike in employment, while Liberty, Okaloosa, Walton and Washington Counties all had more and more people back to work.

In fact, Walton had the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 2.4 percent and the second lowest was Okaloosa at 2.7 percent.

In Bay County there were 400 more workers on the job in August compared with a month earlier. Locally, 3,700 previously unemployed people have found jobs since the first of the year.

The monthly figures are compiled and made public by the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation.
