The hurricanes have put everyone in the same position – no gasoline.
The fuel shortage, with much higher prices, has people exploring their mass transportation options. And, that is great news for the Bay Town Trolley.
Trolley officials say ridership is way up. The trolley has already shattered ridership records for all of 2004 and still has three more months to go till the end of this year.
More than 23,000 riders are taking the local trolley each month. At the current rate the trolleys will transport a quarter of a million people this year.
Managers say the plan to add additional routes along with new benches and new shelters.
The Bay Town Trolley runs Monday through Friday with hundreds of stops.
