Panama City held their 9th Annual Kids Fishing Workshop this morning.

The fishing event was sponsored by the Panama City Department of Leisure Services and held at the Life Management Center on 15th Street.

Moms and dads and kids of all ages fished what’s called peace pond, a large pond actually located on the center’s property.

The fishing extravaganza began this morning at 7 a.m. and ran right up until lunchtime. They were giving away free food, and of course prizes for the young fisherman and fisherwoman.

We talked to a representative from the leisure services and they say the heart today’s event is for children to have a wholesome and wonderful fishing experience, and wonderful if it was for Kimberly Dissmon, who caught a large catfish with her dad.

"I was trying to get a fishy on a hook and we had a fight it and then it got off and then it came back and we reeled it in, and then we got it."

There was a six fish limit for each child, and in case the event inspired you to fish a local pond, they say worms, chicken livers and dead fish make the best bait.
