The Panama City Police Department honored law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in 2007.

Sixteen officers were killed in the line of duty in 2007 throughout Florida. Police Chief John Van Etten welcomed family and guests as the memorial service honored those officers.

The event featured a 21 Gun Salute by the PCPD Honor Guard. Flags were flown at half staff and officers were in full uniform to honor their fellow officers.

The officers were remembered for the bravery, and their families were honored for their loss.

Chief John Van Etten said, "Our hearts are with them, truly our hearts are with them, and as time goes by they're not forgotten. I would say that we are thinking of them and thinking about the sacrifices they made."

Sergeant Jerry Wells was killed in 1973. He was also honored as the only officer killed in the line of duty while serving on the Panama City Police Department.
