A Springfield child killer has failed in his latest attempt to get his life sentence tossed out.
Christopher Brian Morrison was sentenced to life for the beating death of three-year-old Chance Kessler four years ago.
It happened at the Springfield home he shared with his girlfriend, Chance's mother.
Investigators say Morrison beat Chance so severely, the child died from several skull fractures and a torn liver.
Morrison argued the life sentence was an illegal sentence.
A circuit court judge rejected that argument in June. Tuesday, the First District Court of Appeals agreed with the local judge's decision.
