Chipley police are trying to piece together a murder mystery. It began Wednesday night when a Hispanic man in his early 20's showed up at the Northwest Florida Community Hospital emergency room about 11:30.
He said he'd been stabbed in the stomach. Paramedics airlifted him to an Alabama hospital, where the man died two hours later.
Police were able to trace the man back to a Chipley mobile home park called the Circle J. Investigators believe he was stabbed at the mobile home where he lives. They say they want to question another Hispanic man named Pedro Blancas Santa Maria.
Maria is in his early 50's and may be driving a white-over-tan dodge van with a red stripe down the side and Texas license plates.
Authorities believe the two men may have worked together at a construction site in Freeport and so far that's one of the few clues they've been able to gather.
Kevin Crews, Chipley Police Chief, says, “We're still working on the case and interviewing people at this time, and right now as far as the neighbors, we haven't found any yet that's been able to offer up any information."
Investigators are calling Pedro Blancas Santa Maria a person of interest. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Chipley Police Department at 850-638-6310.
