2 Alabama Men Suspected in Washington Co. Murder

WASHINGTON CO. - Washington County Sheriff's investigators are collecting evidence in a murder case.

The two people at the center of their investigation are sitting in a jail in South Alabama, for allegedly shooting a state trooper.

Dillon Rafsky and Zachary Wood are being held on $750,000 bond each.

They are charged with shooting an Alabama state trooper.

While investigating that case, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation Officers discovered the suspect's car had Washington County plates.

They called Washington County Sheriff's Investigators who went to the owner’s house.

They discovered the body of 66-year-old James Shores.

"A fight ensued between the two suspects and Mr. Shores,” said Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock. “And they subdued him and beat him down and then bond his hands and bound his feet. Then took a garden hose and proceeded to beat him some more with the garden hoe."

But officials say Mr. Shores died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators say the two suspects admit they were in the area mudding before the burglary of Shores' home.

They say the pair stole miscellaneous items including curtain rods from the home, and were trying to leave, when their car got stuck.
That’s when Shores allegedly confronted them.

"Mr. Shores had came by the old farm house, seen the vehicle stuck, confronted the two suspects out in front of the old farm house and told them they were gonna have to leave,” Haddock explains. “And matter of fact 'your gonna leave and I’m gonna call the sheriff’s office to assist you in leaving,'" Haddock said.

Right now the two men are only facing charges in Alabama, not Florida.

"We are in the process of looking at charges for burglary and grand theft auto. And, probably looking at charges of an open account of murder on those suspects," said Haddock.

Both men will most likely remain in an Alabama jail until Washington County authorities file their charges.
