Fate of Bay County Surplus Land

In a one-inch-thick book are the descriptions of hundreds of pieces of land determined "surplus" by Bay County officials.

Bay County commissioners are trying to decide what to do with the land. They've come up with three possible suggestions.

One would be to sell the property. Others say the county should leave well enough alone. The third suggestion is to make the land available for use by charitable groups, or create affordable housing.

The commission hopes to make a decision in the next six months. Commissioners did not make a decision on a site for a new county government complex. Commissioner Gainer wants to pursue an estimate for a building at the current airport site, which already has a building, parking and is centrally located.
