Police arrested 31-year-old James Lee Mashburn of Campbell, Alabama and his girlfriend Linda Jane Wood after receiving a call of a physical altercation involving multiple people around 2:40 Sunday morning.

Police say Mashburn fired a single gun-shot from the second floor of the Inn Paradise motel just before deputies arrived on scene. The bullet struck the road.

Police interviewed Wood who denied having any knowledge of her boyfriend being involved in the shooting, but a second interview revealed Wood did know about the shooting and that she was the owner of the gun.

Chris Robinson, who witnessed the incident said, "It could have got really bad if the other guy had a gun and the other guy just kept having gunfire in the middle of Front Beach, it could have got really bad."

Mashburn was later found to be a convicted felon.

He's charged with aggravated assault, battery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Wood is charged with supplying false information to law enforcement during investigation.

They're being held in the bay county jail.
